Summit County Clerk of Courts

Tavia Galonski serves as the Summit County Clerk of Courts. The office is at 205 S. High St., Akron, OH 44308-1662. Call 330-643-2211. The Clerk of Courts public records page explains how to request documents and what fees apply. Court documents and recorded proceedings are public records subject to disclosure under the Public Records Act.

The File Room in the basement of the Clerk's building provides public viewing and copies of court records. For records from 2002 to the present, the Clerk's website offers immediate online access, which is the recommended approach. For records before 2002, submit a Public Records Form by email, mail, or in person. If you have trouble with the request process, call (330) 643-8082.

Exceptions to public access include cases where a judge has restricted access or where court orders protect certain information. Social security numbers, bank account numbers with access codes, and victim names and addresses in criminal cases are shielded from disclosure.

Summit County Records Fee Schedule

Summit County has clear copy fees for public records. Certified copies cost $1.00 per page. Authentication of copies, also called exemplification or triple seal, is $5.00. Computer docket printouts and regular copies are both $0.10 per page. If your request requires IT assistance for a special report, the fee is $25 per 15-minute increment of IT staff time.

These fees are set by the Clerk's Office and apply to court records. Other county departments may have different fee structures. Always ask about costs before submitting a large request. The Clerk's website lists the full fee schedule so there are no surprises.

The Summit County court records portal lets you search criminal, civil, and traffic cases online. Criminal records show the full history of a person, including traffic infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies. Records include defendant details, charges, hearing timelines, arrest dates, mug shots, physical descriptions, attorney names, and the assigned judge. You can search by name, case number, or date filed.

Court records can be requested from the Clerk of Courts for most case types. Municipal court records are handled separately. Federal court records for the Northern District of Ohio are at the John F. Seiberling Federal Building, 2 South Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44308. Call (330) 252-6000 for federal cases. The Clerk cannot provide those records.
